LIVE WORKSHOP: ASK-THE-EXPERT
Posture, Breathing and Bracing in Complex Disability
with Dr. Mary Massery
Think differently about what breathing, posture, and the connections between body systems are telling you clinically.

A workshop for physical and occupational therapists exploring clinical reasoning in supporting postural control with a focus on Mary's signature approach to bracing and breathing
Join Dr. Mary Massery - no lecture, no slides. Just real clinical reasoning, practical problem-solving, and a focus on how breathing, posture, and body systems interact in the kids you actually work with.
""It is easier to prevent than to correct... bit if the brace gives you perfect alignment and takes away your physiology, you're not gonna wear it."
"The most important thing about a brace isn't the child's posture. It's what it enables for the child and their future.

Join us for 90 minutes of clinical clarity

Grounded - Practical - Immediately Useful

Your Invitation

Come join us for 90 minutes of insights and clinically nuanced discussion with an expert clinician who thinks differently, questions the norms, and gets results.

Mary will explore:

  • How airway, reflux, continence, and posture connect
  • The relationship between breathing mechanics, postural control, and movement
  • How spinal deformities differ in neuromuscular scoliosis
  • Get the abdominal cut-out right - common mistakes and easy fixes
  • Assisted cough and airway clearance techniques
  • When to focus on energy conservation and supports
  • Addressing the "won't this weaken her muscles" objection, and why disuse concerns shouldn't block a brace a child actually needs
  • Questions submitted by therapists attending live from around the world

You will leave with:

  •  a clearer understanding of how body systems interact in real kids
  • greater confidence interpreting breathing and postural presentations
  • practical ideas for integrating breath, posture, and movement
  • new strategies to try in your sessions immediately
  • a deeper appreciation for how interconnected these systems really are

And you'll walk away with a broader, more connected way of thinking that you can bring into clinic straight away.
What Makes Mary’s Teaching Different?
This isn't a lecture, and there are no slides. Mary teaches through real conversation, offering a look inside her clinical reasoning and problem-solving process.
She teaches therapists how to think.

Her work integrates:

  • breathing and postural control
  • how airway, reflux, continence, and posture connect
  • respiratory training
  • assisted cough and airway clearance
  • energy conservation and supports
  • how systems interact in real kids

What therapists repeatedly say after learning with Mary is not simply:

   "I've heard of this."

      It is...

"I get it - and I know what to do next."

And that is the beginning of meaningful progress.

Meet Your Expert
Mary Massery, PT, DPT, DSc is a physical therapist from Chicago with more than 40 years of clinical practice, specialising in breathing and postural dysfunction.

Her doctoral research pioneered the concept of managing trunk pressures as a new way to visualise core stabilisation, and her publications and interests focus on linking motor behaviors to breathing and postural mechanics in both pediatric and adult populations.

She has presented over 1,000 lectures and courses linking motor behaviors to breathing and postural mechanics in all 50 US states and in 18 countries, and has received the American Physical Therapy Association's Florence Kendall Practice Award, its highest clinical honor, recognising outstanding and enduring contributions to the practice of physical therapy.

Mary is interested in helping therapists:

  • look at physiology first
  • ask why a child moves the way they do
  • connect breathing to posture, movement and function

She brings together breathing mechanics, postural control and core stabilisation in a way that helps therapists see the children in front of them more clearly and reason more confidently about what they observe.

Is This For You?
If you want to think more deeply about:

  • breathing mechanics
  • postural control
  • airway, reflux, and continence
  • movement
  • how body systems interact
  • and clinical reasoning in paediatric practice...

We would love to have you join us.

  • Is this suitable for newer clinicians or only advanced practitioners?
All are welcome. Whether you're new to pediatric therapy or have years of experience, this session will deepen your understanding of how positioning and environmental adaptations intersect with movement, communication, learning and participation.
  • Can parents access this recording?
Yes - these recordings are accessible to anyone who is wanting to understand how to support communication and access for their kids with complex needs. All discussions are general education content only and insights that arise from this presentation should be discussed with the child's medical team directly.
  • Will you go into depth on specific clinical cases?

  • Do you get any Continuing Education Credits for attending?
To keep this event affordable and accessible globally, we do not pursue individual CEU approvals across states and countries.

About CEO
For many therapists, these Ask-The-Expert sessions creates a shift.

You start to see things you hadn’t seen before.
You begin to question things you previously accepted.

And very quickly, a new question follows:
How do I apply this to my child?”

That’s where most workshops stop.
This is where the work continues.

Clinical Excellence Online (CEO) is where you take this further.

Not by learning more content.

But by applying this way of thinking to real children, in real situations.

Inside CEO:
  • You bring the children you’re working with
  • We slow things down
  • We look carefully at what’s happening
  • And decide what actually needs to change

It’s where insight becomes application. If you choose to continue after the workshop, you can step straight into that next level of support and tap into a team of experts that will make everything easier and more effective to implement

And your workshop ticket gets you two months free inside CEO so you can see if it works for you.

" It gave me the confidence to advocate for a new approach, resulting in dramatic improvements in the child's posture, breathing, speech, and overall function. CEO enabled this transformation that would not have happened otherwise, by connecting me with expert knowledge I could apply directly to help this child."
