ASK THE EXPERT LIVE EVENT
The Prep Work for Success
with Susan Blum
Why addressing restrictions, alignment and postural control BEFORE working on function goals changes what is achievable.
For years, Susan worked with children, trying to get them to do what they couldn't, reinforcing the very compensations she meant to reduce. Her Total Motion Release Tots (TMRtots) method takes the opposite approach: No force on the skeleton, and treatment that follows the direction the child's body is already moving toward.

This event is for physical and occupational therapists who want to explore how we find the missing piece under the skill we are trying to improve that makes everything else easier and faster to achieve.

"We're the caboose, the patient is the engine. There is no force on the skeleton." — Susan Blum

Settle in for 90 minutes of clinical clarity

Grounded - Practical - Immediately Useful

Your Invitation
Spend 90 minutes with an expert clinician for insights and clinically nuanced discussion, someone who thinks differently, questions the norms, and gets results.
Susan's approach is built on:
  • Shortening, not stretching: "We can loosen something by shortening it more easily than by stretching it. And there's no chance of discomfort with shortening when we just follow somebody's idea."
  • Reading the child's habitual posture as diagnostic information.
  • Clearing the block before asking for strength or control.

You will leave with:
  • a three-plane framework for mapping restriction before you treat
  • the release, organize, activate sequence
  • low-cost tools: the masking-tape doll, the household-container stander, and the two-minute hold demo
  • ways to build home programs into routines families already have
  • a new lens on tone, dysregulation, and less obvious outcomes like bowel function

And you'll walk away with a broader, more connected way of thinking that you can bring into clinic straight away.
What Makes Susan's Teaching Different

Susan does not teach posture as something to correct.

She teaches therapists how to read it.

Her work integrates:
  • Total Motion Release (TMR) Tots & Teens
  • three-plane fascial assessment
  • direction-of-ease treatment
  • teaching caregivers by having them try the child's posture in their own body
  • cross-transfer from the easy side
  • decades of paediatric practice

The shift Susan describes is not simply learning a new technique.

Meet Your Expert

She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and attended the University of Vermont's PT Program. In 1987, she transitioned to working with children and became a school therapist; in 1998, she joined the county's Early Intervention Team.

In October 2021, PAPTA awarded her the Pediatric Special Interest Award of Excellence in appreciation of her outstanding contributions to the pediatric physical therapy profession.

"For me this has been a true gift developing the TMR Tots & Teens program." — Susan Blum
Is This For You?
If you want to think more deeply about:

  • asymmetry and fascial restriction in three planes
  • releasing before strengthening
  • working proximally before distally
  • the timing of devices and braces
  • home programs that stick

No forcing toward symmetry.

No stretching against the restriction.

Just nuanced clinical reasoning, in real time.

All are welcome. Whether you're new to pediatric therapy or have years of experience, this session will deepen your understanding of how positioning and environmental adaptations intersect with movement, communication, learning and participation.
  • Can parents access this recording?

About CEO
For many therapists, these Ask-The-Expert sessions creates a shift.

You start to see things you hadn’t seen before.
You begin to question things you previously accepted.

And very quickly, a new question follows:
“How do I apply this to my child?”

That’s where most workshops stop.
This is where the work continues.

Clinical Excellence Online (CEO) is where you take this further.

Not by learning more content.

But by applying this way of thinking to real children, in real situations.

Inside CEO:
  • You bring the children you’re working with
  • We slow things down
  • We look carefully at what’s happening
  • And decide what actually needs to change

It’s where insight becomes application. If you choose to continue after the workshop, you can step straight into that next level of support and tap into a team of experts that will make everything easier and more effective to implement

And your workshop ticket gets you two months free inside CEO so you can see if it works for you.

" It gave me the confidence to advocate for a new approach, resulting in dramatic improvements in the child's posture, breathing, speech, and overall function. CEO enabled this transformation that would not have happened otherwise, by connecting me with expert knowledge I could apply directly to help this child."
